Halloween Fun in Vancouver – Here are Four Popular Activities

Posted By On 25 Oct 2024

Halloween is around the corner, and one of the best ways to get into the Halloween mood in Vancouver is to partake in some of the many seasonal activities and attractions. Below are a few great suggestions.

Haunted Houses at Fright Nights

Who doesn’t love the challenge of a haunted house in October? There are many haunted houses to choose from in Vancouver during this time, but Fright Nights at the Playland Amusement Park (also known as the PNE) in Vancouver is probably one of the most chilling places to enjoy fear and horror this Halloween. With eight haunted houses, a variety of incredibly decorated spooky foods, and access to horrifying roller coaster rides, you will be sure to have a nightmarish time here. Visiting the PNE from UBC is easy, simply take bus #14 there and back again. Don’t lose your head!

Ghost Train Rides at Stanley Park

Screeching to a halt, the Stanley Park train has turned into a ghostly experience this October. Until Halloween, if you dare, you will have the chance to experience a train ride filled with spooky laughter and frightful faces. Family-friendly autumn photo spots and food trucks also lurk at this “Ghosts in the Graveyard” attraction. For families with younger riders, there are matinee rides available without the frightful theatrical performances. Take bus #44, #84, or #4 from UBC to downtown Vancouver, and then head to Stanley Park, but be sure to first check the attraction’s website for opening hours and availability.

Capilano Suspension Bridge – Frightfully Dizzying

If you are up for an “elevated” spookiness, I would recommend an October visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Until October 31st, the park is decorated for Halloween fun. Explore both sides of the bridge, which are set up with skeletons, pumpkins, and massive cobwebs and spiders. If you are able to visit just before dusk, even better! As daylight fades and the night overtakes, the park’s Halloween theme comes to life in a myriad of decorative lights placed in the rushing water deep below the bridge and all the way up high in the canopies of trees. The highlight of our recent trip was the tree top walk, which is a series of short suspension bridges between many tall trees, taking you above the forest ground and offering you a raven’s (or squirrel’s?) view of the lights and Halloween spook-tastic setups and decorations. Getting to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is easy. Simply take bus #44, #4, or #84 from UBC to downtown Vancouver, and then take a free shuttle from Canada Place to the attraction. Check our their website for more information.

Pumpkin Farms

If you are willing to travel a little further, pumpkin farms are a uniquely October attraction around Vancouver. A day-trip for the whole family, pumpkin farms often offer outdoor activities, craft, food, sometimes a petting zoo, and occasionally even corn mazes and horse riding lessons! There are a plethora of pumpkin farms around in October, and highlighting one over the other is a tough choice, especially as they are a bit further outside the Vancouver core. Notable mentions are the the Southlands Farm in Vancouver and the Country Farms’ The Pumpkin Patch in Richmond. (Some pumpkin farms are also open when it gets dark for an especially spooky experience!)

Happy Halloween!
