Don’t break the bank for your Vancouver summer stay: Stay at Pacific Spirit Hostel

Posted By On 7 Apr 2025

Are you planning a summer getaway to Vancouver but don’t want to pay $250/night (or more) for a hotel stay? If so, would you consider staying at a hostel from just $85/night instead? What if you’d get your own private room at this hostel? This is exactly what our Pacific Spirit Hostel at UBC offers. Vancouver may be an expensive city and hotel prices can be high, but staying at a hostel has become a popular low-cost option, especially when you don’t have to sacrifice a private room. So if we offer private rooms, then why are we called a “hostel”?

Vanier Place - Pacific Spirit Hostel

When most people think of hostels, they picture bunk beds and shared dorms with no privacy. Normally, you’ll never know who your roommates are at any given night. Like other hostels, our rooms are dorms as well, but at Pacific Spirit Hostel you get your own private room so you have a quiet place to rest, recharge, keep your belongings secure, and you won’t have to worry about others in your room. We have single and double rooms available, perfect for solo or buddy travellers.

The “hostel” part also comes in with our shared amenities, such as the washrooms, the kitchenette, and the laundry room. Each floor has a lounge equipped with a couch, tables and chairs, and a TV. One of them even has a foosball table! The lobby and lounge also are the perfect place to meet other fellow travellers from around the world! Plus, because we’re run by one of Canada’s top universities, you can expect high-quality service and well-maintained accommodation. In fact, we’re bringing in our seasoned UBC hotel staff to every year from May to August to run the hostel and service our guests.

Affordable Hostels Vancouver

Located at the west coast edge of the UBC Vancouver campus on the Point Grey peninsula, our hostel is uniquely situated near many attractions and spots to explore. Within steps is Wreck Beach, Nitobe Garden, UBC Botanical Garden and Greenheart TreeWalk, the Museum of Anthropology, the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, the UBC Rose Garden, and of course our beautiful UBC campus itself (there’s a campus map available at our front desk).

If you enjoy outdoor activities and games, then you’re in luck because games such as spikeball, frisbee, badminton, and footballs can be borrowed from the front desk. Just outside the hostel is a large green area to play, and the walking trails and surrounding beaches (such as Wreck Beach and Spanish Beach) are only a short walk away. New this year, we also have some board games that can be borrowed.

Getting around is easy, too. A major bus hub is right on campus, and it is used by thousands of students each day during the regular school year to reach any place in Vancouver and beyond. There’s even a bus stop right around the corner from our hostel.

For a price that starts at $85 per night, the Pacific Spirit Hostel is an excellent choice to save on high hotel costs while still enjoying a Vancouver summer getaway. Not only is our hostel well situated next to a beach, but it is also well connected via transit to the rest of Vancouver. Enjoy your stay!
